Our Mission

The mission of the American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

Our History

The American Diabetes Association is the nation’s leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy.  Founded in 1940, the Association serves the community through the funding of research, publishing scientific findings, providing vital information, advocacy, summer camp and many other services for people with diabetes, their families and health care professionals.

Diabetes & Children

The Association sponsors and/or supports 78 youth camps nationwide each year designed to empower children to learn about diabetes and how to control the disease while engaged in fun camp activities.

Diabetes & Minorities

The Association actively reaches out to diverse communities and groups most at risk for diabetes—African Americans, Latinos/Hispanics and Native Americans—through community based programs, advocacy, publications, and other venues.

Pre-Diabetes

Studies have shown a correlation between obesity and type 2 diabetes as well as the phenomenon of millions Americans having pre-diabetes.  Through events, information line, and the website the American Diabetes Association educates the public that the onset of Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed by up to 58% through lifestyle interventions including modest weight loss and physical activity.
